Agronomists focus on increasing the quality and amount of food produced for the nation’s food supply. The job duties of an agronomist include collect and analyse data and samples of produce, feed and soil, and study other factors affecting production; advise farmers about issues such as livestock and crop disease, control of pests and weeds, soil improvement, animal husbandry and feeding programs; or study environmental factors affecting commercial crop production, pasture growth and animal breeding.
These professionals can work in fields such as teaching or agricultural business consulting.
Most Agronomists hold a Bachelor’s degree in agricultural science or a science degree with a major in agriculture-related studies. Sometimes relevant experience or on-the-job training is also needed.
